Monday lesson on Lo
So it was Monday and that meant it was lesson time again, YAY and Monday lessons are now on Lo. Well, before I even got the young man tacked up I was humming and hahing about whether or not to put medicine boots on him. I decided I would use his green boots and Mr Charlie would have to use Miss Angel’s purple boots until his boots are fixed. Heheheh
Lo was tacked up and ready to go. He has really turned into a lovely young man, standing at the mounting block waiting for me while I readjusted his girth and sorted the saddle out.
Thank you boy
Eventually I got onto Lo and off we were ready to go. We walked around the arena a few times and then Pam came into the arena, it was lesson time….. YAY :) Pam had us doing figure of 8’s and lots of Lo bending around my leg. Sjoe that was hard work but the young man is coming along so nicely. There were points where we were really getting it but of course the rider was having a panic attack, there I was thinking that the young man was trotting way to forward for me when in actually fact he was just trotting. Silly nilly I am some times :( I tend to forget that he is a big horse with a big stride :/
After that it was over to the little tine baby jumps that Pam had re arranged… I was nervous about this and also because Mom and Tristan were riding around the arena and Lily and Charlie were going like Boeings, not literally but figuratively.
And it was off and over the first ‘jump’ or rather trotting pole if one can call it that. Then I made the mistake or so I thought at the time, I put my legs onto Lo so that he would go over the jump and not just walk over it going laaaadiiiidaaa and knock it. Sjoe, I must have felt brave because we made a sharp turn to the right almost T-boning Mom and Mr Charlie, and off Lo went into a sort of trying to canter but still trotting speed. We almost cantered but I kept him back! :( Then we had to do it again but this time from the top of the arena
this time we just walked over very slowly and that was our lesson.
Looking back on it I should have just cantered Lo, the burning desire to canter on my boy has bitten and I want to canter Lo. But lets face it, he is a huge horse and after my dreadful embarrassing attempts of trying to canter in my Friday lesson on Miss Angel the confidence of cantering is somewhat low (No pun intended) at this moment in time
Sigh………
But I know I shall canter with Lo it is just a matter of time and then we will be whizzing around the arena. hehehehe
Thank you to Pam for a wonderful lesson on Lo yesterday
I have such an amazing young man here and I cannot wait for all of the hard work everyone has put into him to just click between us.

Show time :)
So Sunday at arrived and it was show time. We picked Tristan up and got to the stables at the crack of dawn literally. After putting our belongings down it was time to start the plaiting – again. Tristan and I started plaiting Lo first as he was the first out the my two to do his walk/trot test. Well, I never thought that the young man’s mane would take such a long time. Eventually, I finished his mane. The plaits were finished and had been rolled up after having a tuck of war episode with Lo and trying to drag him away from his grass he was ready and I had to get ready. That was when the adreline started pumping. I got myself ready and got the young man tacked up and ready for action. We walked into the arena, somewhat apprehensive but determined to do this.
We went to greet the judges and then the bell went. Tristan called the first walk/trot test for Lo and I, and I am so proud of the young man, Lo that is. For his first official ridden show he was AMAZEBALLS! He could not have done it any better!
YAY, we have finished out first test and my nerves had settled. Lo on the other hand, did not bat and eyelid. He was a cool as a cucumber and it was as if he had been to shows all his life, even though he is only 4 years old. He was not worried about anything. What an amazing feeling that was and that was the moment when the trust in him grew.
Then, it was time to the second walk/trot test. That was ok, it could have been better but since it was our official first ridden dressage test I am so proud of my young man! He got two 2nd’s for both his tests. I could not have asked for a better horse. Give him a few years and he will be an awesome amazing show man in Dressage that is.
Thank you to Tristan for reading the test’s for us.
After I had gotten off Lo and lost a button on my jacket :/ The young man went back to his house, got carrots and got untacked and then it was off to the paddock with Uncle Billy. Then as I was riding my two in the show, it was time to get Miss Angel. There I was all excited to do another show on Miss Angel, she hadn’t been to a show in a while. But, as we were walking to her house I noticed she was walking a bit funny on her right front foot. I realized then she was lame! Blasted it!!!
I went to tell Pam, and Pam just wanted to double check and jeepers did Angel milk it for all it is worth. She could hardly walk out of her stable! It was then we discovered that her shoe had slipped back :/
So it was off I went to tell the judges that Angel was scratched. :/ Blasted it! Well, Angel had a relaxing day, she was spoilt with copious amounts of grass
Pam asked Johan to take Angel’s shoe off and Angel was so well behaved when it came off.
Sjoe, after all of that excitement it was then time to roll Lily’s plaits up. Tristan wanted Lily’s hair rolled up with gold elastics. As Lily’s mane is incredibility long, it took a while and eventually after fighting with the plaits and elastics, Lily was ready for action. By the way, she looked stunning. What an amazing horse she is and she is just stunning! Well done Tristan and Lily
Later in the day, I had to clean Angel’s foot and just make sure it was fine. Angel then went and spent the remainder of the afternoon with Charlie chop and all was well. She got her shoe back on the next day, Monday and was lame for a few days but she is now fine. :) Moral of the story, Angel does not like shows :/
I am so incredibly proud of Lolavie. What a gem and thank you to Pam for helping me with him thus far and in the future. Lolavie is a special horse with so much heart
Well done to everyone that participated in the show, thank you to the judges, supports, Pam and Johan for organizing the show and our horses!
Without everyone involved there would not be a show
We all did super well!
Cheers to the next show :) LOL

Show Prep
Oh goodness me…It was Saturday 8 February. One day before the show. Eish.
Well, to start the afternoon off, Mr Lo and I had a lesson with Pam and went through the walk/trot tests. I thought the tests were fairly good except for the fact that we missed ‘A’ completely in one of the tests. :/
Never the less, I was super proud of Mr. Lo, we could do the walk/trot tests in our lesson so how hard could it actually be? Not that hard!!
After mar Lo and I had finished, I was going to ride Miss Angel but the time was getting on and I still had to plait 3 horses mane’s before the show tomorrow. Eish!
Lo went back into this stable and could not wait to get stuck into his grass again
After I had regained my breathe and got all of the ‘hair’ stuff in order, Tristan and I went to start on Lily’s mane. My goodness, I didn’t realize just how long her mane was. It felt like I was standing there for hours plaiting her mane. Tristan was holding Lily, Lily had her halter on by the way, and he as being an amazing assistant passing me the elastic bands, ‘hair’ brush or the mane and tail detangler. Eventually after what felt like hours of standing and plaiting Lily’s mane was in plaits and even if I say so she looked stunning
Then it was time to move onto Miss Angel. Now let’s not forget that I had ‘trimmed’ her mane not so long ago as I like her to have a short mane much to Pam’s disgust. Heheheh It was getting darker at this stage so some very kind person switched the lights on. Yay I could see Miss Angel’s mane :) I started with my ever ready assistant Tristan on Miss Angel’s mane. Goodness me, this was by far the most difficult and tiresome activity I had done in ages. Who would have thought that a relatively short mane would take so long plait? Definitely, not me. Well after an hour of plaiting I was told by my Mom it is time to go (I am still not allowed to really drive re the broken foot business, so mom is driving). I had zero strength in my arms at this stage and was desperate to just sit down so it meant that Miss Angel had two pieces of her mane unplaited. Oh well., at least the most important aspect of the plaiting exercise had been achieved.
After gathering my many possessions and saying cheers to everyone, two legged and four legged individuals, it was homeward bound we went………
Once home, I had to sort out my show stuff. The jacket went into the car along with the black bag of hair/mane stuff and general bits and bobs for the show…. My tack was clean and Lo’s stirrup leathers were in the car as well, just waiting to be tried out…. Then it was off to bed to get and early for the show

Cantering again on Miss Angel
Cantering again:
Well on Friday 7 February 2013 the weather was behaving so I decided to ride my girl. Stacey was having a lesson practicing for the show on Sunday and wowzers her and Queenie were going like Boeings.
Although it is about the 3rd or 4th time that I have ridden since Lo stood on my foot and broke it, I was nervous but just sucked it up and got on with it. Charlie and Mom were also riding in the arena on Friday afternoon.
Miss Angel and I were doing some trotting and walking transitions in preparation for the show. She is coming on so amazingly well…. After Stacey and Queenie had finished I went down to the bottom of the arena and decided to trot in a circle.
I could the need to canter boiling up inside me but I dismissed it because I thought I was not ready. I seriously think Pam is a mind reader because out of nowhere Pam says ‘Ok canter now’. I thought EISH but let’s try this. And guess what first time around we go into the canter and it was amazing. Angel is now able to canter in about 3 maybe more circles……. What an amazing transformation from when I first started lessons
I am so please Pam that said I should canter. My confidence to just get on and do it is now there again. Thank you Pam
