Lesson: 16 August 2011

WOW what a lesson we had! I really got more in the lesson that I had anticipated and it was HARD work!

The lesson started with Pam going “Feet out the stirrups”… Now I have no problem doing that hehe :) But then came words that knocked me for a six… “Trot on rising trot”, I actually looked at Pam with astonishment lol… But sucked it up and did it :) I think I really got it nicely :)

Then I got my stirrups back ^_^ but had to concentrate on keeping my legs the same as it were without stirrups. I tell you that was quite a mission, but I got it right eventually :)   We then moved onto cantering and had to apply the same principal. On the left rein a struggled to get Lily to canter, but got it right after a few tries :) Then came the right rein and we did splendidly there :) She is really coming along nicely in her canter, I think I just need to be more assertive.

After that we worked on her frame a bit and really start to establish our communication with each other. Pam had me feel what was working and what was not and I think I got the idea of what Lily wanted in order to go soft. Her walk frame is really absolutely divine and she does it SO nicely :) Once we had her soft in the walk, we had to keep the transition to trot smooth, so had to choose my moments carefully. We got some divine transitions up and then came the asking for the frame :) Lily was doing it fantastically! She was really starting to keep the frame consistently towards the end as well as in the downward transition.

After that Pam had us do the trotting poles which she did BEAUTIFULLY, she really lifted and moved over them nicely :) Then Pam had us come on a left rein and pop over the small Cross and whilst we were preparing for it Clever Lily just dropped into a frame and maintained it for long and we popped over the small cross SO nicely :) Changed rein and did the same there and she did it nicely again :D SUCH a clever Filly!

I was SO impressed with her :) She really is doing well and aims to please, what a pleasure :D
Thanks to Pam for my awesome lesson! :)

Randjies Outride – 14 August 2011

Emma had a show (Gymkhana fun day) in Randjies with her instructor Thelma and had no one to go with, so I tagged along like we did about 1 1/2 years ago, when she had a dressage show there ;) I still had Montana then hehe.

So we arrived at the yard really early, packed feed, feedbins, water bowls, halters etc and then tacked up and headed off.
The ride to Randjies was quite nice, just really hate the stupid dogs that come out of no where and startle the horses. But the spooks on the way there were minimal and not even anything worth writing home about.

The horses were both really chilled together and it was sooooo pleasant :D We got into Randjies and had a little trot til just before the tunnel. The last time I went into the tunnel with Lily she was not happy to do so and it was quite scary… But this time, she marched through there like it was nothing (BIG WIN) :D We then went up the little bank and then headed off towards where the BIG warmbloods are, we had a nice trot up to the top and then got to the Warmbloods. They were busy being led to the yard across the road, probably to graze and get worked. We then headed to the main Bridle pass where the gallop strip is :)

Emma and I decided to trot down the hill before the strip and get them to work their bums, they moaned all the way down but they did fantastically :) Then we got to the hill and Emma asked if we can canter nicely up there and I did not hestitate at all :) So it was Sox going first and then Lily went :) They were both SO good, they went calmly up the hill, did not speed up or anything, just a small spook at a wooden jump from Both Sox and Lily and then they were fine again lol :) Crossed the road and then cantered the last stretch as well :)

We finally arrived at the venue a few minutes later and we untacked and popped them into the stables they have there to chill and relax, gave them their teff and water and we went to find out when Emma was riding. The boys also came in tow with foods and drinks (Thanks Michael and David!!!) and chilled with us. Emma soon had to rush to tack up and go into her first race. The races didn’t go as well as I think Emma wanted, but it looked beautiful when all the horses cantered off and Sox came half passing down the arena ;) Such a clever pony hehe. Emma did two classes and scratched the rest. We then Fed the horses and let them chill again till we packed up to leave.

Getting on Lily there was a mission cause of the excitement, she had a gelding neigh-bour that gave her loads of attention >.< But got on finally and we headed home. They were tired, but as tired as they were, they marched all the way home. I never realized how fast Sox can really move, he was at one stage about 100m ahead of us and I had to keep catching up with Lily at the trot lol (and she was walking very forward).

We finally arrived back home and spoiled the two of them rotten! They worked hard and were amazing! I was SOOOOOOO proud of Lily!!!! :) What a special horse she is :) We have decided to do more of these outrides to Randjies, they really are fun and awesome :D

The Show and Lessons :)

So the show finally arrived and I was excited!
I think Lily was a bit over excited as well and it showed in the results in the show :o
BUT that being said, I thought it through and it was my own fault… I fed her a full Molassas block on Friday which she finished on Saturday… Molassas + Lily = Sugar Rush child! So all she was acting up from was her sugar rush!

But yeah, we did dismally and showed everyone how NOT to do dressage… A enter in flat out gallop was not in the test and nor was half pass around the arena… But we know she can do it now hahahaha!

The jumping went OK, BUT she lacks confidence in the trot and pretty much stopped at every fence, until we cantered and then things were easy to do!  We went clear, but I chickened out of the 40cm… her noseband was too low and I felt that had an impact on how she was going as well… I do not regret doing that in the least.

Here are some photos of Lily JUMPING… and MAN does she have a jump on her! Excuse my eyes lol…

Tuesday we were back in action, had fixed the noseband and had my lesson with Pam. Lily was back to normal and worked really nicely and made me really happy. I must tell you, I was relieved she was back to normal and not loopy like she was on Sunday!

Thursday Pam drilled Lily and I in our lesson, but it was awsesome. We are waiting for miss filly to have her click moment now, and I am waiting as patiently as I can lol… It really is hard work, but worth every second of it!

A HUUUUUUUGE thank you to Pam for organizing the show and for my awesome Lessons and thanks to the people who were there to support and to Johan and Selwyn for running the tuck shop and keeping us ‘satisfied’ :)

Lily the GAS Poser

As of Late, Lily has been having lots of photoshoots from numerous photographers. To the point where I think Charlene gave her a Model name, cause of the amount of posing she does ;) Here are some photos from her shoot 2 weekends ago :)
